The oil of blessing

While praying online with some good friends last week, I had a beautiful picture. I saw a person standing with oil being poured over their head. As more and more oil was poured out, it started to cover their whole body. As it poured down their clothing and eventually reaching the floor, it became thicker and thicker and started pooling at the hem of their garment.

Psalm 133 immediately came to mind.

'How truly wonderful and delightful it is to see brothers and sisters living together in sweet unity!

It’s as precious as the sacred scented oil flowing from the head of the high priest Aaron,

dripping down upon his beard and running all the way down to the hem of his priestly robes.'

God is pouring out his blessing where our hearts are connected by the unity of the spirit, where we are walking together, guarding each other's backs and together, piercing any darkness that dares to cross our paths.

The oil was poured over the person's head. The word 'head' can mean the beginning or the source of something. Having just crossed over into a new year, I had a sense of the need to bless the beginning of this new year, the head of the year. As the year progresses, the oil will increase and get thicker and thicker. In the picture, the oil eventually pooled around the hem of the garment as it overflowed. This reminds me of the hem of Jesus' garment. As the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of his garment, she was instantly healed. As His oil is poured out more and more, the miracles and healings will increase.

To some we are the fragrance of life and to others we are the fragrance of death. This outpouring of oil will be amazing for some but not so amazing for others. Oil brings soothing and healing to the body, but it also repels that which needs to be removed from the body.

I speak a blessing at the head of this year, 2025. I bless the oil of love and unity to flow, the oil of fragrance and soothing, the oil of healing and deliverance to bring freedom, hope and joy.
